South African hip-hop phenomenon Die Antwoord returns to Prague. The eccentric and provocative duo Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er promises an electrifying and bizarre show at the Karlín Forum!
DIE ANTWOORD took a long break from touring the world in 2019 to focus again on what they love doing best: Music and art. Now Die Antwoord announce their: REANIMATION.
Ninja says: “We’ve been working in private for so long that some people thought we were dead!” And -Yo-Landi adds: “So we decided to name our new EU / UK tour, DIE ANTWOORD, REANIMATED!”
The musical and visual style of Die Antwoord (“the answer” in Afrikaans) is based on the South African subculture zef. They mix raw straight hip hop, electro and rave, rap and sing in Afrikaans, Xhosa, and English. Their bizarre, often vulgar video clips shock and their live performances are always an eccentric show.
Die Antwoord forms a dynamic duo – singer Watkin Tudor Jones with the stage name Ninja and singer Yolandi Visser, known as Yo-Landi Vi$$er. Together with the silent DJ Hi-Tek or Li2Hood, they fascinate audiences all over the world.
The duo was formed in 2008 in Cape Town, and a year later Die Antwoord released their debut album “$O$”, which they put online for free. Thanks to the video for the song “Enter the Ninja”, their popularity skyrocketed all over the world. After a short interlude with the Interscope Records label, they founded their own label Zef Recordz in 2011, which produced two more of their records – “Ten$ion” (2012) and “Donker Mag” (2014). Under the same label, they also released a mixtape – “Suck On This” in 2016, as well as the album “Mount Ninji and Da Nice Time Kid”. The last studio album is called “House of Zef” and was released in 2020.
Among their most streamed songs are the iconic “Baby’s On Fire” (over 100 million streams, over 270 million views on YouTube) & “I Fink U Freeky”, “Ugly Boy”, “Banana Brain” or “Pitbull Terrier”.
