UB40 v Praze!
Leaving aside Jamaica, what is the most famous reggae band in the world? Definitely a British UB40! These living legends from Birmingham, whose history dates back to the late 70’s, will come to Prague! He will perform exclusively at Forum Karlín in the Czech Republic.
UB40 started their careers as forerunners of the British The Pretenders, who invited them as a backing band as part of their tour. It’s funny that at the end of the tour, people attended their concert stops because of the UB40 rather than the Pretenders. This group of young musicians, based on mutual respect and friendship, has gained a wide awareness of reggae and ska culture over the years. It has become an imaginary musical bridge between whites and blacks, and thanks to UB40, reggae has ceased to be perceived only as an underground matter of Jamaican culture.
The name UB40 is inspired by the legal form that needed to be filled in in the UK to apply for unemployment benefits – Unemployment BENEF, Form 40. And it is social problems, racism and difficult living conditions that are the main themes of the songs of this legendary band.
More than 20 studio albums, hundreds of sold-out concerts worldwide and 60 million records sold. And their most famous song of all time? Without debate Red Red Wine of 1983.
