Charismatic, soulful British star plays Prague for the first time
Laura Mvula, whose style mixes elements of soul, jazz, and r&b into a fiery 21st-century brew, has been called a Nina Simone for the modern age. Her 2013 album ‘Sing to the Moon’ announced a major new talent on the scene, and its follow-up, the critically-acclaimed ‘The Dreaming Room,’ established her as a major star. A singer, pianist, and songwriter with a restless spirit and an explorer of different musical forms, Mvula is equally at home playing shows with her band or working with symphony orchestras on ambitious arrangements of her work. Conductor and arranger Troy Miller is a frequent collaborator on these projects – the two performed a memorable concert with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican in 2017 – and Miller himself will be holding the baton at Mvula’s Prague concert. Mvula has collaborated with a range of major artists including David Byrne (who personally requested that she join his last tour), Robert Glasper, Esperanza Spalding, Nile Rogers, Gregory Porter, etc. This is her first ever performance in Prague.
