Alternative indie music stars The Kooks are returning to their Czech fans after nine years! The band will arrive with their proven hits and, most importantly, their fresh album "Never/Know" on February 25 at Prague's Forum Karlín.
After more than two decades of existence, The Kooks decided that it was time to stop just patching up cracks and do a proper "reconstruction" of the band. When they put aside everything unnecessary and looked back at all the lineup changes, disputes, and musical experiments, what remained was the core of what actually holds them together. Guitarist Hugh Harris summed it up simply: "We have a shared vision – to bring joy and love through well-written and well-played pop. It's actually quite simple, almost childlike."
Once the band clarified who they were and what they wanted to do, the solution was clear – to return to the spirit of their debut. Not to a specific sound, but to the energy and atmosphere that radiated from it. During the recording of their seventh album, Never/Know, frontman Luke Pritchard didn't tell anyone that it was no longer just a demo, capturing the band at a moment when there was "complete ease" between them. There was plenty of room for playing, improvisation, and a little chaos.
"I think we used to avoid that and try to make things too easy for ourselves," Luke admits. This time, however, The Kooks bet on spontaneity, a return to basics, and a rediscovered joy of playing. As the singer himself adds, "I feel like we've regained our confidence by letting things flow and not pushing for perfection."
The Kooks are a British indie rock band from Brighton. They have been on the scene since 2004 and were inspired by one of David Bowie's songs when choosing their name. The band quickly gained the attention of the music public. Their debut album went five times platinum in the UK, double platinum in Ireland, and platinum in Australia. In 2006, with the release of "Inside In/Inside Out," The Kooks were named Best British and Irish Band at the MTV Europe Music Awards and were soon nominated for the Brit Awards. Their second album, Konk, further cemented their enormous popularity when it climbed to the top of the British album charts immediately after its release. This year, fans had the opportunity to see them as the headliners of the Grape Festival in Slovakia.
