Chart-topping drum and bass band Pendulum formed in 2002 in Perth, Western Australia. The band's line-up consisted of Rob Swire, Paul Harding and Gareth McGrillen. Swire and McGrillen are also known for their work under the Electro House group Knife Party. Other members include MC Ben Mount, Peredur ap Gwynedd on guitars and Kevin Sawka on drums. The founding members of Pendulum were inspired after hearing Konflict's song Messiah in a nightclub. They decided to contribute to the drum and bass genre and asked veteran drum and bass DJ Paul Harding to join them.
The band quickly became known for their distinctive sound, which combines electronica and hard rock and encompasses a variety of genres, many of which are influenced by McGrillen and Swire's previous stints in the heavy metal band Xygen. Pendulum's first album, Hold Your Color, was released in 2005 and became an instant classic in the drum and bass scene with the singles "Ulterior Motive" and "Spiral". Their second album, In Silico, was released in 2008 and revealed more of their rock sensibilities.
Mainstream success came with the single "Propane Nightmares". Their third album, Immersion, was released in 2010 and featured the singles "Ransom" and "Crush". Their collaborators include Chuckie, Deadmau5 and Tiesto, and the band has also remixed other bands' tracks, including "Voodoo People" by The Prodigy, as well as putting their own spin on songs by Cold Play, Led Zeppelin and Calvin Harris.
The band has played hundreds of shows around the world, from Europe to North America, and is a regular fixture at music festivals. Pendulum are currently busy writing new material, and whichever direction they take, fans will have a lot to look forward to.
