Muzikál expres
An evening of musical hits not only for lovers of this genre
Hudba / Klasická hudba / Pop
On Wednesday, October 22, the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra will accompany prominent singers such as Monika Absolonová, Václav Noid Bárta and Michaela Gemrotová-Štiková at the Forum Karlín, commemorating 35 years of continuous broadcasting of the Muzikál Expres program. The Czech Radio Children's Choir will also be present, with Jakub Žídek taking the baton.
A prominent figure in musical theatre, lyricist, librettist, translator, publicist and producer Michael Prostějovský, who has translated many famous world musicals into Czech, including Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Cats or Vampire Ball, has been preparing the Muzikál Expres program for Czech Radio from the spring of 1990 to the present. Those continuous 35 years are a real rarity, unique not only in Czech radio history, a rarity worthy of a grand celebration.
The upcoming concert will undoubtedly be that! Just all the titles that will remind you – among others, it will be The Phantom of the Opera, which was played in New York on Broadway from 1988 continuously until 2023 and achieved a record 13,981 performances there. The rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s workshop must not be missed, which at the time seemed like a very bold, controversial and provocative matter. Let’s remember the melodies from the musical Les Misérables, which five years after its Paris premiere (1980) appeared in an English translation in London in October 1985, where it eventually became the longest-running musical in the world. The Czech stage will be represented by Soukup’s Joan of Arc, Karel Svoboda’s Dracula and Ledecký’s Hamlet.
