HOLLY JOHNSON BEST OF EUROPE TOUR
FRONTMAN FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD
Concert of the British music legend and frontman of the world-famous band Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Hudba / Pop
Celebrate with us in the unique Prague's Forum Karlín the 40th anniversary of singer Holly Johnson, frontman of the band Frankie Goes to Hollywood. And not only with the cult hits Relax and The Power Of Love, which became mega-hits in the then Czechoslovakia thanks to the film Bony a klid. Composer Ondřej Soukup included both pieces in the groundbreaking 1987 film directed by Vít Olmer. The soundtracks are popular among all generations and are still one of the most played on Czech and foreign radio stations, not only thanks to the film.
After award-winning international concerts in 2023, Holly Johnson returns to the scene with a brand new show featuring the timeless hits that made Frankie Goes to Hollywood one of the most influential bands of the 80s. During his autumn European tour, he will visit Prague after a ten-year hiatus.
William "Holly" Johnson is an English artist, musician and writer, best known as the lead singer of the Liverpool-based band Frankie Goes to Hollywood, which achieved enormous success in the mid-1980s. Johnson himself named the group based on the title of an article about Frank Sinatra. The group quickly gained a reputation for their incredible stage show.
Holly Johnson's success in the 1980s was preceded by a career as the bassist for Big in Japan. In 1989, Johnson's debut solo album Blast reached number one in the UK charts. Two singles from that album - "Love Train" and "Americanos" - simultaneously reached the top five of the UK singles chart. The debut single "Relax" soared to the top of the island's chart and stayed there for five weeks. In 2006, it finished in the top seven best-selling UK singles of all time. Other tracks have also occupied the charts in his native England.
The much-loved soundtracks Relax and The Power of Love became famous in this country thanks to the film Bony a Klid, a paraphrase of the title of the famous gangster film Bonnie and Clyde. The film looks back to the former Czechoslovakia during the 1980s. It depicts a straightforwardly short "career" of a naive young man going from a small town to Prague in order to get back the money he was robbed of by crooks. Instead, he becomes a member of an established con-artist gang in Prague's community of hustlers.
The film's impressive atmosphere is completed by dynamic cinematography and the omnipresent music of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, supported by the unmistakable voice of its lead singer Holly Johnson. Controversial in its time, yet attractive, the film does not lack suspense or humour. It belongs to a series of films openly responding to the issues of the time, the catchphrase "Any bony...?" being unforgettable. The excellent music complemented the film perfectly and Frankie Goes To Hollywood became the most famous foreign band in our country thanks to the high attendance of the film.
Join us for a reminder of the infamous era of bons and bail bondsmen with the music of Bony a klid, but first of all, come and dance at the unique Forum Karlín on September 29 with world-famous hits performed by Holly Johnson.
Many fans will undoubtedly get goosebumps at the first words
...come and sing live...
…Ay, ay, ay, ay
Feels like fire
I'm so in love with you
Dreams are like angels
They keep bad at bay, bad at bay
Love is the light
Scaring darkness away, yeah
I'm so in love with you
Purge the soul
Make love your goal
The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
Flame on, burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal
I'll protect you from the hooded claw
Keep the vampires from your door
When the chips are down I'll be around
With my undying, death-defying love for you
Envy will hurt itself
Let yourself be beautiful
Sparkling love, flowers
And pearls and pretty girls
Love is like an energy
Rushin' an' rushin' inside of me, eh
The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
Flame on, burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal
This time we go sublime
Lovers entwine, divine, divine
Love is danger, love is pleasure
Love is pure, the only treasure
I'm so in love with you
Purge the soul
Make love your goal
The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
The power of love
A force from above
A sky-scraping dove
Flame on burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal
I'll protect you from the hooded claw
Keep the vampires from your door
