3000 SQM ACROSS 3 FLOORS
Forum Karlin is a multi-funtional hall located in Karlin, a distinct neighborhood near Prague’s city center, which is currently expanding with modern architecture.
Forum Karlin was built on the former grounds of an historical steam boiler factory, which operated throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1908.
Forum Karlin was designed by the world-renowned Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill, and the AED project studio.
“Forum Karlin is a unique industrial building. My job was to emphasize the uniqueness of this impressive place and gently alter its original industrial usage. The project successfully accentuates the beauty of Karlin’s historical and industrial heritage.”

The multifunctional hall is fitted with a unique and resonating acoustic solution. Great emphasis was placed on the choice of the structural and resonant materials, as well as on the acoustic elements used for the stage and auditorium areas. Thanks to its careful design, the audience can enjoy fantastic sound at events ranging from rock concerts to operas, and even congresses.
In addition to its superb sound, Forum Karlín is also fitted with a state-of-the-art rigging system, which has an extreme load limit of up to 180 tonnes. This capability opens up a wide range of possibilities when it comes to the most demanding programmes and scenic designs.
The building itself is covered with a special LED facade, which can change colours according to client requirements. The idea behind this design was to create an abstract square facade that easily blends or contrasts with the surrounding area. This is why the authors of the project chose a transparent cover of the building made out of the special “U glass” (copylit) material.
